Pre Race - monsoon madness from Adrian Kiernan on Vimeo.

The Monsoon Madness event was held over the weekend near Cairns in North Queensland. There had a been a lot of water in the weeks leading up to race, and Adrian Kiernan and friends made the most of a few warm up runs last week. We're hoping to see a lot more coverage coming out of the event in the coming days, but until then here's a little teaser of what North Queensland has on offer.

Okere Dreamin from Sean Gerlach on Vimeo.

It's been a crazy week for many New Zealanders. Our thoughts with those directly affected by the quake and subsequent aftershocks (one of which just shook my desk). We've now got power back and will be working on getting the next issue of Cumec out ASAP. Until then get motivated by some Okere Falls lifestyling in this little video from Sean Gerlach.

We're trucking on through the finals stage of Cumec Issue #13 and finding motivation in lots of little places to get this one all wrapped. Stumbled across this clip from Dream Result of the 'Asian Invasion' featuring Ben Marr, Patrick Camblin, Andrew Pollock and a few others.

Stay tuned for updates over the next few weeks as we really get stuck into event season, and we release what will be another epic issue of Cumec.

Uganda/Kenya video wrap up from Blair Trotman on Vimeo.

Kiwi paddler Blair Trotman sent us the link to his latest video on Friday. Some sweet paddling and a touch of mountain biking in Kenya and Uganda.

Twelve Productions - An Irish Slalom Kayaker from Twelve Productions on Vimeo.

Summer holidays have passed on by for the most of us, and the next big weekend to look forward to is the annual Buller Festival in Murchison. Chief organiser Ben Jackson has just returned from Antarctica and will be head down, tail up with planning details over the next month. Stay tuned to the Buller Festival facebook page for updates on all the important factors like the theme for the party, and possibly some other changes in the works...

Until then watch this video of the infamous 'Murchison Merv' for some great slalom technique ideas, if you like what you see then search youtube for 'Murchison Merv' and you might unearth another gem of a video.

Rush Sturges dropped this trailer a couple of weeks ago on his website www.river-roots.com. Luckily we're now able to embed this wicked little clip into our site. In Rush's own words "Frontier follows up where Dream Result left off, following a group of kayakers on another adventure around the globe. Featuring footage from Mexico, China, Iceland, Norway, Northwest U.S.A., B.C., Quebec".

The stunning footage in this trailer is set to a killer dub-step track from Freestylers - Crack 'Flux Pavillion Re-mix'  that make this an inspiring trailer that will get you amped for the week to come.

Twelve Productions - Hucking Huka from Twelve Productions on Vimeo.

Mike Dawson and Ciaran from Twelve Productions are starting to lift the bar on their web-only kayak film production. This effort features young Ryan Lucas and Sean Gerlach dropping into New Zealand's famous Huka Falls at a stonking 190cumecs. Be warned that it features some profanity and a very serious beatdown.

The 2011 Australian Canoe Slalom Nationals were held last week in Nymboida, NSW. While the residents of Queensland were evacuating their homes the fastest kayakers in Australia and the NZ Junior Development squad were battling the rising waters just over the border.

I'm not wanting to be biased but the New Zealand Juniors kayakers really showed their strengths with some top performances against there Australian rivals. We'll have a full wrap of the event in the upcoming issue of Cumec (#13, March). Full results available at www.slalom.canoe.org.au

If you're in the North Island in the coming weekends the NZ Selections race will be held in Kawerau in the Bay of Plenty (22nd/23rd), before heading down to the International ICF race Oceania Championships at Mangahao near Palmerston North on the 29th and 30th of January.
